The 2023-2024 season came to a close on June 30th, 2024 and Langley Gymnastics Foundation (LGF) proudly reflects on a year filled with remarkable achievements, growth, and community engagement. This season, we hosted three prestigious competitions, showcased exceptional performances from our athletes, expanded our programs, and deepened our community impact.
Prestigious Competitions
We were thrilled to host three major gymnastics events this year:
Western Canadian Championships: LGF hosted a phenomenal competition and celebrated three Western Canadian All-Around Champions from our own gym.
Christy Fraser Memorial Invitational (CFMI): With over 1,050 participants from across Canada and the US, this event was a massive success.
Elite Canada: Held in tandem with CFMI, this competition brought together Canadian National Team Members and all High Performance gymnasts, offering a glimpse of the Olympians that participated in Paris 2024.
Competitive Program Success
Our competitive program remains the largest in the province, boasting 150 Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) athletes and 75 Men’s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG) athletes. Their dedication and hard work shone brightly at the BC Championships, where we proudly saw 12 All-Around Provincial Champions.
This year, 17 of our athletes qualified for the Canadian Championships held in Gatineau, QC, accompanied by five of our dedicated coaches that qualified as Team Coaches for BC. LGF athletes brought home an impressive 14 medals, reflecting their hard work and determination throughout the year.
International Achievements
Our athletes also made waves on the international stage:
- Jordanna Phillis (WAG Senior): Jordanna, coached by Janice Fowler, competed for Canada at the Luxembourg Open this year, and earned a full-ride scholarship for gymnastics to Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.
- Aidan Gonzalez (MAG Junior): Aidan, coached by Kris Krunick, achieved 1st place in High Bar at the Grizzly Classic in Alberta and represented Canada at the Junior Pan Am Championships in Santa Marta, Colombia. Aidan helped the Canadian team place 4th at this prestigious competition, qualifying a Junior Team for the Pan Am Games 2025. He finished his season placing 2nd All Around at Canadian Championships, earning a spot on the Junior National Team. Another first for LGF!
Recreational Program Growth
Our Recreational program saw tremendous growth, with over 1,200 participants in Session 2. Families are increasingly recognizing gymnastics as a foundational sport that enhances physical literacy, coordination, body awareness, balance, flexibility, and strength.
Diverse and Inclusive Programming
We continued to offer a variety of programs, reflecting our commitment to inclusivity and community support:
- Seniors Can Move: A free gymnastics program for seniors.
- Foundations Program: Tailored for children with special needs.
- Partnership with Canucks Autism Network: Providing specialized programming for children with autism.
- LGF Community Outreach: Offering free gymnastics camps to youth who might not otherwise have access to extracurricular sports.
- Partnership with Lower Fraser Valley Aboriginal Society: Launched the “LGF Giving Tree” to provide Christmas gifts to families in need.
